Report To:   Director of Racing | Racing Secretary

 

The Receiving Barn Laborer is responsible for cleaning, organizing, and making minor repairs to the Receiving Barn by performing the following duties.

  • All custodial/cleaning of each stall in the Receiving Barn as many times as needed daily.
  • All custodial/cleaning of the floors in the Receiving Barn on a constant basis.
  • Cleaning and sweeping of parking lots in and around the Receiving Barn.
  • Cleaning and flushing of the drains in the wash stalls on a weekly basis.
  • If assigned to work during live racing, ensure the safety of the horsemen by keeping the floors clean and clear of waste at all times.
  • Maintain and manage the proper care of work equipment reporting loss or damage to the supervisor.
  • If asked, assist the Stall Superintendent place horses shipping in to race in the correct assigned stall.
  • Team member will be working around Thoroughbred and Quarter Horses each day; must have experience working around racehorses.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or GED; College experience preferred.
  • One to three months of experience in racetrack industry; must have experience working around racehorses.
  • Excellent verbal, mathematics, interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems, offer recommendations, decision making, ability to make quick accurate decisions independently.
  • Extensive equine knowledge, types of racing and all racing industry requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain an Indiana Horse Racing Commission License.
