Job Description

Job Summary: The Commis 1 will assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes under the guidance of senior kitchen staff. This role requires a keen attention to detail, a passion for food, and a willingness to learn and grow in a dynamic culinary environment. The ideal candidate will have foundational culinary skills and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards in food quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation:

    • Assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes according to established recipes and standards.
    • Prepare ingredients, including chopping, dicing, and measuring, to ensure readiness for cooking.
    • Follow instructions from the Chef de Partie and other senior kitchen staff to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Station Management:

    • Manage and maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned workstations.
    • Ensure proper handling, storage, and rotation of ingredients to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
    • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of ingredients and supplies for the station.
  • Quality Control:

    • Adhere to established food safety and hygiene standards, including proper sanitation of kitchen equipment and work areas.
    • Conduct regular checks to ensure that dishes meet the quality and presentation standards set by the kitchen.
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate food preparation and service.
  • Learning and Development:

    • Actively participate in training and development opportunities to enhance culinary skills and knowledge.
    • Seek feedback and guidance from senior staff to improve performance and advance within the kitchen team.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:

    • Culinary diploma or equivalent qualification in culinary arts preferred.
    • Previous experience in a professional kitchen is advantageous but not required.
    • Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and food preparation is desirable.
  • Skills and Competencies:

    • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.
    • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
    • Good organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to follow instructions and learn quickly.
  • Personal Attributes:

    • Passionate about culinary arts and eager to develop a career in the hospitality industry.
    • Reliable, punctual, and capable of working flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
    • Strong work ethic and a willingness to contribute to a collaborative team environment.
