As Shift Engineer, under the guidance of the Chief Engineer you will ensure that the Engineering operation during your shift is efficient and productive & in accordance with IHG standards for maximum guest satisfaction.
Duties and responsibilities
Financial returns:
Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and financial plans. Monitor budget and control expenses with a focus on energy management, preventive maintenance, and capital planning
- Maintain the hotel in your qualified trade to the desired standard
- Shift inspection and rectification
- Complete work orders as requested by the Chief Engineer to meet customer requirements
- Initiate/identify project work required throughout the hotel
- Implement and action the preventative maintenance program
- Demonstrate flexibility in changing the work schedule in light of guest priorities
- General building minor maintenance repairs
- Ensure pool chemical level is in accordance with legislative requirements, is vacuumed and surrounding area maintained to standards established
- Ensure plant rooms are checked and cleaned and are in operating order
- Carry pager and respond to requests from departments regarding minor maintenance issues throughout the day
- Conduct lighting checks to ensure all globes are in working order
- Investigate reported faults for laundry and kitchen equipment
- Carry out any minor repairs to guest rooms or public areas
- Liaise directly with departments regarding the completion of work orders and prioritise in order of guest satisfaction
- Occupational Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Demonstrate Awareness of OH&S policies and procedures and ensure all procedures are conducted safely and within OH&S guidelines

- Be aware of duty of care and adhere to occupational, health and safety legislation, policies and procedures
- Be familiar with property safety, first aid and fire and emergency procedures and operate equipment safely and sensibly
- Initiate action to correct a hazardous situation and notify supervisors of potential dangers
- Log security incidents and accidents in accordance with hotel requirements

- Manage day-to-day staffing requirements, plan and assign work, and establish performance and development goals for employees. Provide mentoring, coaching and regular feedback to help manage conflict and improve employee performance.
- Educate and train all employees in compliance with governmental and safety regulations. Ensure staff is properly trained and has the tools and equipment to carry out job duties.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with all internal customers and guests in order to anticipate their needs
- Anticipate guest needs, handle guest enquires, and solve problems
- Create a positive hotel image in every interaction with internal and external customers
- Adhere to hotel brand standards
- Maintain a high level of product and service knowledge in order to explain and sell services and facilities to guests
- Assist guests and escort them to locations within the hotel at their request
- Maintain knowledge of special programs and events in the hotel in order to recognize and respond to guest’s needs
- Maintain current Hotel information to be able to provide information to guests

- Demonstrate co-operation and trust with colleagues, supervisors, teams and across departments
- Communicate well to ensure effective shift hand-overs
- Actively participate in organised meetings
- Interact with department and hotel staff in a professional and positive manner to foster good rapport, promote team spirit and ensure effective two-way communication

Qualifications and requirements
Bachelor degree in mechanical or electrical engineering is a must.
Hotel experience preferred.
Must be able to speak local language(s) good command of English is mandatory
(0-2 years of experience)
