Job Description

OVERVIEW/BASIC FUNCTION:
The Fitness Instructor is certified to lead classes and perform Personal Training sessions and private classes for the guest. They are fitness professionals with extensive experience in the fitness field. The Fitness Instructor must be knowledgeable of all fitness offerings at the spa, hold current certifications and have previous experience. They must possess excellent customer service skills in order to provide the highest quality environment and instruction that will meet the needs of our guests in the area of health and exercise.
To provide a comprehensive one-on-one educational fitness program for members to assist them in achieving their fitness goals, offering assistance to guest’s using fitness facility, providing group exercise classes.
Provide a courteous, professional, efficient and flexible service at all times and assistance to all guests each day. Must be able to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy; prioritize, organize and follow-up; be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment; follow directions thoroughly; understand a guest’s service needs; work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team; work with minimal supervision; maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Oversee the maintenance, repair and security of Fitness Center and Movement Studio facilities and activities equipment to ensure they are meeting guest expectations. 
    • Provide Personal training for mental and body toning in guiding guests towards a healthier lifestyle.  
    • Provide in-depth information of equipment usage, lifestyle management; provide group exercise classes as per agreed timetable and design a customized personal fitness program.
    • Identify the need to liaise with your line manager with regard placing orders for equipment and supplies with an awareness of budget issues. 
    • Develop positive working relationships with all departments. 
    • Help organize and host guest events when needed.
    • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and general maintenance of Fitness Center equipment and Movement Studio facilities. 
    • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
    • Participate in daily briefings with the spa and wellness team and generally interact with guests at all times. 
    • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards.
    • Ensure that standards are maintained at a superior level daily.
    • At all times to be flexible, courteous, resourceful, and cheerful. To create an environment that is professional.
    • To work in a safe manner and create a safe environment for internal/external guests of the spa. 
    • To know all the safety and fire procedures.
    • To report for duty punctually, wear the correct uniform and shoes.
    • To maintain a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene as per the spa grooming standards.
    • Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
    • Maintain positive guest relations at all times.
    • Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.
    • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas to ensure the spa is kept to the highest standard of cleanliness and comply with health, hygiene, and safety regulations.
    • To always check and maintain the ambiance set-up in accordance with the minimum standards.
    • To greet guests in accordance with the standards.
    • Maintain heart of house work space in organized, well labeled manner. Do not store unnecessary items or overstock par levels.
    • Educate, inform, and promote spa services to spa guests and associates.
    • Inform Spa & Wellness management of any guests’ complaints, concerns, equipment or supply issues.
    • Communicate and develop good working relationships with the Spa team, and Hotel associates, members and repeat guests.
    • Assist with special events/workshop and perform other duties as assigned by the Spa & Wellness management.
    • Be familiar with all hotel/spa packages, promotions, prices and rates.
    • Handle emergency procedures and report any accidents to your manager and security.
    • Assist all other staff at times of need.
    • To attend all departmental and general staff meetings.
    • Maintain a positive attitude toward guests, co-workers, subordinates, and Director of Spa & Wellness. Do not engage in gossip or any dialogue that may diminish the direction and goals of the hotel and the hotel group.
    • Keep an open and flexible attitude; be willing to change.
    • All other duties as required.

Language
Required to speak, read and write English.  Additional language is an asset
Physical Requirements
Must be able to endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, be available at times throughout work periods, and satisfactorily communicate with guests and co-workers to their understanding.
Qualifications 
    • High school diploma.  Diploma or degree in a related field. 
    • Must have Fitness Certification
    • Demonstrate sound organizational, coordinating and personal interface skills.
    • Proven job reliability, diligence, dedication and attention to detail.
    • Must be flexible with working early morning, late evenings, weekends and holidays.
    • Professional appearance and demeanor.
    • Literacy in Microsoft Office, PMS and Spa Software system knowledge preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
    • ESSENTIAL-Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing or Personal Trainer or equivalent and Yoga Instructor Certification
    • DESIRABLE-Level 3 Personal Trainer certification, Certificates in Exercise to Music, Barre, Pilates and First Aid, preferred. 
Experience 
    • Minimum of 2 years working in a Luxury Hotel and Fitness Center in a Luxury Hotel or Luxury Day Spa brand environment. Minimum of 3 years as a Gym or Fitness Instructor.
