Job Description

The General Cashier is dedicated to the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting along with tight fiscal controls, in particular the production of the semi-monthly payroll and associated government reporting.

What will I be doing?

The General Cashier supervises and accounts for all cash activities of the Hotel, safeguards cash assets, and prepares all financial reports related to cash transactions. Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

ADMINISTRATION

  • Assists in making sure that the hotel is adhering to all Company/Hotel Human Resources Policies and Procedures.
  • Assists in making sure that government-stipulated employee legislation is strictly followed and implemented.

FINANCIAL

  • Keep oneself informed and updated of the Hotel’s financial goals
  • Ensures new technology and equipment are embraced, improving productivity while taking work out of the system. 

COMMUNICATION

  • Ensures that all in-house rules and regulations are communicated to team members and implemented.
  • Feedback the results of the Team Member Survey and ensures that the relevant improvements are implemented.
  • Ensures that the confidentiality of all Team Member information and benefits packages must be strongly adhered to.

GUEST & TEAM MEMBER EXPERIENCE

  • Ensures a strong professional relationship with all levels of Team Members within the hotel, taking an active interest in their welfare, safety and development.
  • Respectful of the time of the organization as well as that of other Team Members. Puts a high value in promptness for any related work attendance matters, be it training, meetings or daily work.
  • Encourages Team Members to be creative and innovative, challenging and recognizing them for their contribution to the success of the operation.

OPERATIONAL

  • Ensure that all hotel, company rules, local and international laws, SOX, BSP, SOP’s and regulations are adhered to, including the timely and accurate reporting of financial information. Uses Best Practices whenever possible.
  • Liaise with any team member handling cash, requiring petty cash exchange, and ensure hotel collections deposited to the bank on daily basis.
  • Ensure the accurate foreign Currency calculations, departmental cash workflow and cashing up practices and procedures, General Cashier report completion and other cash related income audit tasks
  • Full adherence to petty cash requirements, limits and approval processes
  • Completes a daily job check list to ensure compliance and completion of all tasks
  • Attends meetings to promote communication with colleagues, other departments and all other key stakeholders.
  • Is sufficiently present in operations, monitoring and interacting with the team on a daily basis.
  • Maximizes productivity through the use of multi-skilling, multi-tasking and flexible scheduling to meet the departmental goals of the business.
  • Ensures adequate measures are in place to identify forged currencies and all cash handling team members are trained on detecting forgeries
  • Takes active responsibility for all cash, cash transaction and cash security matters throughout the hotel and all departments as long as the cash is company property.
  • Ensures that system reports from OnQ, Micros or any other reports showing cash takings are not viewed and are immediately forwarded to income auditor and the AFC/DOF is informed.
  • Maintains bank approved record of bank account access or method of accessing bank account, ensuring that there is proof beyond doubt that no other than TM listed/stamp listed on the bank approved document have bank account authority. Update the needed documents on banking requirements such Sec. Cert. Resolutions ensuring the approval of Regional on later stage.
  • Takes ownership of all vouchers, ensures all are compliant with hotel policy, secured, the sequences is logged into a log book, issuing is through requests or forms that required signature and reconciliations are done on a regular basis.
  • Assists in making sure that Team Members’ Lounge area is maintained to high standards of operation.
  • Monitors and maintains the proper appearance of the office area.
  • Ensures that the Hilton Brand Service Standards is fully implemented and adhered to by all Team Members
  • Assists the Management Team and Heads of Department through an active and visual presence in identifying Learning and Development needs within each department.
  • Is flexible to relieve Finance personnel when it deems necessary.
  • Assists and coordinate with Payroll for the monitoring of the insurances, permits and licenses expiration.
  • To ensure that the files and finance records are properly archived by different relevant finance section. To monitor finance archives log, from its archive to its disposal.
  • To ensure that Finance Roster, Manning Schedule and Attendance is monitored and submitted on time per cut-off.
  • Reflects a supportive and welcoming atmosphere within own and to other departments at all times. Considers the need of others while maintaining compliance to hotel procedures.

Other Duties

  • Complies with hotel’s rules and regulations including but not limited to Hilton’s company-wide policies.
  • Sets an example on attendance and punctuality including high standard of personal grooming and hygiene.
  • Exercises responsible management and behavior at all times, positively representing the hotel as Hilton Ambassadors.
  • Attends training sessions and meetings as and when required.
  • Carries out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Performs other duties subject to management’s review and revision of this job description during employment period.
  • The management reserves its right to move, transfer or re-assign team members from their accustomed shift or schedule, job function and department as business dictates.  Likewise, Team Members may also be task to assist other departments or other Hilton properties on task force when necessary and when business demands.                             

A General Cashier serving Hilton Brands is always working on behalf of our Guests and working with other Team Members. To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the attitude, behaviours, skills, and values that follow:

  • At least 3 years of working experience as General Leger or higher in the hospitality industry.
  • Professional accounting qualification.
  • Mature and reliable person.
  • Previous experience in a managerial operational accounting role.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English to meet business needs.
  • Ability to analyze large volume of complex financial information from many sources and create reports, forecasts, and projections
  • Strong problem solving skills, including ability to effectively address any issue in collaboration with others as appropriate
  • Ability to proactively identify and prevent potential problems
  • Ability to help develop problem solving skills among direct reports and other team members as appropriate
  • Ability to take initiative to identify, prioritize and implement all elements required for team to fulfill responsibilities
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Ability to develop presentations and effectively present to all levels of company, hotels & owners.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills (all levels of management and external customers)
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word and Outlook with the ability to quickly learn new programs when required

Additional Preferences:

  • University degree in Accounting or Finance
